GREENWOOD PARK
JGM worked with the Greenwood community to create this 2.3 acre
neighborhood park plan. The former greenhouse site and right-of-way
of the Seattle-to-Everett Interurban trolley line was master planned,
incorporating the community’s vision for open space, environmental
stewardship and historical interpretation.
A community play meadow is the park’s major element. It is
complemented by two play areas (one designed for younger children
and one for older children), a sunny terrace, an interpretive trellis
with a full-scale sculpture of the interurban trolley, a restroom,
and numerous game tables and raised planters.
Environmental stewardship was integrated into the plan by creative
use of porous concrete paving, imported granular drainage medium
under the play meadow and a wetland swale to treat stormwater. JGM,
Seattle Parks and the community worked with SPU, the City’s
drainage utility, to incorporate a major project grant for the storm
drainage portion of the project.
David McNeal, FASLA was the project manager. JGM’s scope of
services included the master plan, community involvement, construction
documents and construction phase services.
