Juanita Bay Park, Kirkland
This 67-acre park occupies the site of a former golf course.
The site contains many plant communities including fresh water
wetlands, upland meadows and mixed second-growth forests. Forbes
Creek flows through the park into Lake Washington , creating a
diverse habitat for resident beaver and muskrat dens, river otter,
eagles, herons, turtles, migratory waterfowl and many other wildlife
species.
JGM was the prime consultant for the park master plan and design.
The project included vehicular and pedestrian access, parking,
restroom and interpretive structures, picnic tables and extensive
ADA accessible “needle-pile” supported wetland interpretive
trails.
JGM worked with the community, the Department of Fish and Game,
a citizen’s advisory committee and park staff to determine
the natural and historical elements for interpretation. JGM designed
the graphics and illustrations for the 18 interpretive panels.
The project scope included master planning, public involvement,
design, construction documents and construction phase services.
David McNeal, FASLA, served as project manager and lead master
planner. Craig Lewis, ASLA, was the project landscape architect.
