BELLEVUE BOTANICAL GARDEN MASTER PLAN UPDATE - BELLEVUE, WA

In 1989, JGM completed the Wilburton Hill Park Master Plan.  A major element of the plan was the creation of the Bellevue Botanical Garden.  During the ensuing years, the Garden grew and flourished under a unique public/private agreement between the City of Bellevue and the Bellevue Botanical Garden Society (BBGS).  Acknowledging the need to update the Garden’s master plan, JGM was selected as the consultant.

The plan update addressed the changes adjacent to the site, recent property acquisitions, increasing garden visitation, future garden “rooms” and the changing regulatory environment.  In addition to preparing the master plan update, the contract scope included the detail conceptual designs and sketches for development of two new garden rooms- Wetland Sun Terraced Garden and Ravine Garden.  The collaborative planning and design process included a 6-member Task Force comprised of three city staff members and three members from the BBGS.  The plan was adopted by the City Council in 2009.

JGM is currently working on the construction documents for the Wetland Sun Terraced Garden. David McNeal is Lead Master Planner/Designer for this project. Craig Lewis is the Project Manager.
